Time tracking
What is geofencing?
Also called: geofence time clock, GPS time clock
Geofencing draws a virtual boundary around a job site so a mobile punch is only accepted when the employee is actually there.
The punch is stamped with a location at the moment it happens, then checked against the site's radius. That is different from tracking someone continuously, and the distinction matters for both battery life and trust.
Radius is the setting people get wrong. Phone GPS is commonly accurate to tens of meters, so a tight boundary rejects legitimate punches from the far side of a parking lot. A radius with some grace, and a clear message when a punch is refused, prevents the support calls.
A few states require written notice of electronic monitoring, and privacy expectations vary, so tell employees plainly what is captured and when.
