Overtime
2x the ordinary rate beyond 10 hours a day or 48 hours a week (s.15). Max 144 overtime hours in 3 months.
Breaks and lunch
At least 30 minutes of rest after 6 hours of continuous work (s.12). Spread-over max 10.5 hours, 12 for intermittent or urgent work (s.14).
Overtime in Gujarat
- 2x pay for hours past 10 in a day.
- 2x pay for hours past 48 in a week.
- Daily limit raised from 9 to 10 hours (s.12) and the overtime trigger to match (s.15).
- Overtime cap raised from 125 to 144 hours in three months (s.15).
- Weekly rest of 24 consecutive hours, paid (ss.16, 18). Work on the rest day is paid at 2x; denied rest becomes compensatory leave within 2 months.
- Applies to establishments with 20 or more workers (s.1(3), up from 10); smaller ones file an intimation only. Government, RBI, intermittent workers and family members excluded (s.3).
