Take a photo at every punch
Turn on punch photos so the time clock snaps a picture at each clock in and out, and review faces beside names to stop buddy punching.
With punch photos on, the time clock's front camera takes a picture when somebody presses a punch button, and you see that face beside their name. It stops one person punching for another, and it is free on every plan.
Turn it on
- Go to Settings > Time clock.
- Under Photo at each punch, tick Capture a photo at each time clock punch.
- On the clock, allow the camera when the browser asks.
It works with an iPad, an Android tablet, or a computer with a webcam. Nothing is recorded between punches.
What staff see
After typing their PIN, the person sees a live preview from the front camera. The photo is taken the moment they press Clock In, Start Break or another button, and shown back to them with the punch.
Review the photos
- Click Time Clock in the sidebar, then Punch photos.
- You see each person's punches for the day with the picture taken. Use Previous day and Next day to move through dates.
- Click a photo to enlarge it.
- Click Set as reference photo on a clear one. From then on their reference sits beside every new punch, so a wrong face stands out.
Photos also appear as thumbnails on the live board on Time Clock and in the timesheet punch editor (View punch photo).
If the camera is blocked
The clock keeps working and saves punches without photos. It shows a short line at the top, like "Camera blocked. Punches are still saved, without photos.", with Enable camera. Your dashboard shows a warning on every page with the steps to fix it:
- iPad: Settings, Safari, Camera, Allow for this site.
- Android or a computer: tap the lock icon in the address bar and allow the camera, then tap Enable camera on the clock.
- Camera did not start: reload the clock and tap Enable camera. If it keeps failing, restart the tablet.
Don't show on this kiosk hides the line on that one device. The dashboard warning still shows until the camera works again.
Good to know
- Only managers, admins and owners can review punch photos.
- Punches made in manager mode, typed in on a timesheet, or made from a phone have no photo.
- To stop taking photos, untick the box. Photos already taken stay with their punches.
