Set up the Office Time Clock on a tablet
Turn a tablet, old phone or computer into a locked time clock for your location, so staff punch in and out with their PIN.
Open your time clock address on the screen by the door and type your location's eight-digit code. That screen becomes a clock and nothing else: staff punch with their PIN, and your dashboard cannot be opened from it.
What you need
A tablet (iPad or Android), an old phone, or a computer left open on a monitor. Any of them works the same way. It needs an internet connection.
Open the clock with the code
- On your own computer, click Time Clock in the sidebar.
- Under your location, find the Time clock address (it looks like yourbusiness.kloqk.com/kiosk/open) and the eight-digit Code.
- On the screen by the door, open that address in the browser.
- Type the code. Kloqk shows which location it opens, so you know it is the right one.
- Optionally fill in Where is this clock? (for example "Front counter").
- Tap Open the time clock.
Shortcut: Open location kiosk on the Time Clock page opens the clock with the code already filled in. The copy button beside it copies that link so you can send it to the tablet.
If you are signed in on that screen
Opening the clock on a screen where you are signed in shows a bar at the top: Signed in as your name, with Back to dashboard and Lock this screen for staff. The clock works as it is, so you can try it. Before you leave the screen with your team, tap Lock this screen for staff. That signs you out on that device only, and from then on the screen is just the clock.
Check it is running
Back on Time Clock, each location lists its screens under Installation Locations with a status: Open now, Paused or Offline. The setup step Activate your time clock ticks once the location has a running clock.
More than one clock
Open as many clocks as you have doors: a counter, a kitchen, a loading bay. There is no limit on clocks within a location, and they all share that location's code. A second location, with its own staff, code and timesheets, is part of Pro.
Switch a clock off
Go to Settings > Time clock and click Switch off beside the device. A device keeps working until you do, even if it leaves the building. Generating a New code does not stop a clock that is already running.
Good to know
- To take a screen back from being a clock, tap Exit at the top and sign in with your email and password on the screen that follows. That pauses the clock on that screen until it is opened again.
- With the box New code generated automatically when an employee is deactivated ticked, the code for that person's location changes when you deactivate them. Clocks already running keep working.
- Staff can switch the board between Table and Cards. The screen remembers the choice.
- The clock updates itself after we ship a change, at a moment when nobody is mid-punch.
- Photos at each punch, hiding names and manager mode are covered in Punch photos, Hide names and Manager mode.
Questions people ask
Can staff get into my dashboard from the tablet?
Not from a clock opened with the code or locked with Lock this screen for staff. It can record punches and nothing else.
Can I use more than one tablet at one location?
Yes. There is no limit on clocks within a location, and they all use the same code.
Someone took the tablet home. How do I stop it?
Go to Settings > Time clock and click Switch off beside that device. A new code alone does not stop a running clock.
Does the time clock cost anything?
No. The Office Time Clock is free with unlimited employees at one location.
