Choose where an employee works, and their home location

Tick every location a person works at, pick their home location, and see who works where on the Employees list.

Each employee has a Works at list on their employee form. Tick every place they work. If you tick more than one site, choose one as their Home: that is the location whose pay rules and totals they count under.

Set where someone works

  1. Go to Employees in the sidebar.
  2. Click Add employee for a new person, or open the menu on a person's row and choose Edit.
  3. On a new person, click Add employment details to show the full form. (A business with more than one site sees the full form straight away, because the location has to be picked.)
  4. Find the Works at box. It lists your sites first, then any field locations, each labeled site or field.
  5. Tick every place this person works.
  6. Click Add employee or Save changes.

If you only have one site, it's ticked for you when you add someone, so a one-shop business never has to think about it.

Pick the home location

As soon as two or more sites are ticked, a Home badge appears beside one of them and a Make home button beside the others.

  1. Click Make home next to the site that should be this person's home.
  2. Click Save changes.

If you don't choose, the first ticked site in the list is their home.

What home decides

  • Pay rules. Break, lunch and overtime rules can differ by location. A person is paid by their home site's rules.
  • Totals. Everyone is counted under exactly one location, their home. That way the people under each location tab add up to your whole roster and nobody's hours are counted twice.

What ticking more places does

They can clock in at every place ticked. The time clock at each of those sites lists them, so a person who covers two shops shows up on both clocks.

Tip: To see the hours someone actually worked at each place, rather than where they belong, use the report by location. See Report by location.

See who works where

On the Employees list, a person who works at more than one place has small tags under their name, one per place. Their home location has a star (★) in front of it.

When you have more than one site, tabs across the top of the list let you look at one location at a time: All locations first, then one tab per site. Each person sits under their home site's tab.

The employee's own page also shows Works at, with "(Home)" after their home location.

Good to know

  • More than one location is part of Pro, $29 per location per month. On Free you have one site, so every employee's home is that site.
  • Field locations (job sites) can be ticked too, but a home is always a site. Field work means punching from the person's own phone, which needs a login, so the form asks for an email when a field location is ticked. See Job sites and geofences.
  • If a location tab shows nobody, open a person and tick that location under Works at.
  • Changing someone's home changes which tab and which totals they count under from then on. It doesn't move or delete any punches.

Questions people ask

Can one employee clock in at two of my stores?

Yes. Tick both stores under Works at on their employee form. They will appear on the time clock at both, and you pick one as their home.

Why does the Home button not show up?

It only appears when two or more sites are ticked. With one site ticked, that site is their home automatically.

Will a person who works at two places be counted twice on my reports?

No. Totals count each person under their home location only. To see hours worked at each place, use the report by location.

Do I need a paid plan to have more than one location?

Yes. Free covers one location. More than one location is part of Pro, which is $29 per location per month.
