Job sites and geofences

Add job sites with an address, a radius and the days they run, choose whether off-site phone punches are flagged or blocked, and review them.

A job site is an address with a circle around it and the days the job runs. When someone punches from their phone inside a site that is live that day, the punch is stamped with that site. A punch anywhere else is either recorded and flagged with its street address, or refused, depending on your setting.

Job sites are part of the Field Time Clock: $59 per location per month on Premium, free for 30 days from the first phone punch, with no card needed to start.

Add a job site

  1. In the sidebar, click Job Sites.
  2. Under Add a job site, type the job name (for example "Johnson re-roof") and the address off the work order. Add the town and state if it is not found.
  3. Check Counts as on-site within (meters). It starts at 150, which covers a house and its street. Make it bigger for a large lot or a campus.
  4. Set the First day and, if you know it, the Last day (optional).
  5. Click Add job site. Kloqk confirms where the map put it.

You can also add one from Settings > Locations > Add a location by choosing Field, fixed: a job site with an address. There, leaving both days blank makes a site that is always live.

The days a job site is live

  • A site only catches punches on its live days. Before the first day it is listed under Upcoming; after the last day it moves to Finished jobs and drops off the crew's list by itself.
  • A site with no dates shows Always live.
  • Back at the same address for a new job? Add it again with new dates. Past addresses are suggested as you type.
  • Click Edit on a site to change its address, radius or dates.

Choose what happens outside every job site

  1. Go to Settings > Locations.
  2. Under When someone punches from their phone outside every job site, pick one:
    • Record it and flag it: the punch counts, marked off-site with the street address. You see it; nobody is stranded.
    • Block it: the punch is refused until they are within the radius of a job site that is live today. The phone tells them how far they are from the nearest site.

This choice appears once you have at least one fixed job site.

Crews that work wherever the job is

If your people work at addresses you never know in advance, add a roaming location: Settings > Locations > Add a location > Field, roaming: wherever the job is. Punches from anywhere count for it, with the location recorded. Someone who walks onto a live job site is still stamped with that site. You can have one roaming location, and while it exists Block it is turned off.

Review a day

The Job Sites page shows one day at a time. Use Previous day and Next day, or Back to today.

  • Off-site punches come first. Click Accept on the ones that were legitimate. The flag stays on the record with your name; Withdraw undoes it.
  • Live today lists each site with who punched there and how far from the marker.
  • Phone punches with no location lists punches where the phone did not share where it was.

Good to know

  • Crews do not need to be assigned to each job. A punch inside any live site is matched to it. If you tick specific job sites under Works at on someone's record, only those are matched for them.
  • Where two circles overlap, the punch goes to the site whose marker is closest.
  • Removing a job site that already has punches closes it instead of deleting it, so the record stays under Finished jobs.
  • Job sites are not billed as extra locations.
  • Who can add and change job sites is the Add and change job sites row in Settings > Permissions. Managers have it by default.

Questions people ask

How big should the geofence be?

The default is 150 meters, which covers a house and its street. Make it larger for big lots, farms or campuses, where a phone may be far from the address marker.

What happens if someone punches outside a job site?

With Record it and flag it, the punch counts and is flagged with its street address for you to accept. With Block it, the punch is refused until they are inside a live job site.

Do I have to assign crews to every job?

No. A punch inside any job site that is live that day is matched to it automatically.

Do job sites count as extra locations on my bill?

No. Job sites and the roaming field location are not billed as locations.
