Set your pay period and workweek
Tell Kloqk how often you pay and which day your week starts, so reports, overtime and exports match your real payroll.
Go to Settings > Payroll, choose your Pay period and the day your Workweek starts on, and, for weekly or bi-weekly pay, enter the last day of your current pay period. Then click Save beside the section heading.
Set it up
- In the sidebar, click Settings, then the Payroll tab.
- In Pay schedule, open Pay period and choose Weekly, Bi-weekly, Semi-monthly or Monthly.
- Choose the day your Workweek starts on. Overtime is counted on this week.
- For Weekly or Bi-weekly, enter the Last day of your current pay period. This is the last day of work the period covers, not payday. Any period you have already paid works too.
- Check the dates listed underneath: the previous, current and next period.
- Click Save beside the Pay schedule heading.
Semi-monthly periods run from the 1st to the 15th and the 16th to the end of the month. Monthly periods run from the 1st to the last day. Neither needs a date.
What follows the pay period
- Reports open on the last completed pay period, and the Period dropdown lists Last pay period, Current pay period and the two before.
- The payroll exports and the Paychex Flex file cover the dates you pick on the report.
- Each employee's pay history is saved one pay period at a time.
- A salary is shared across the pay periods in a year: 52 for weekly, 26 for bi-weekly, 24 for semi-monthly, 12 for monthly.
- Time off set to a fixed amount each pay period is added on this schedule.
Good to know
- Overtime is owed on the workweek, not the pay period. When a pay period cuts a week in two, the overtime is counted in the period that holds the end of that week, because the hours past the limit are the last ones worked.
- Each section of the Payroll settings page saves on its own. Save and Undo appear beside a heading only while that section has changes.
- Changing your pay period later keeps the pay periods already saved in pay history at the length they were.
- Every change is recorded in Settings > History.
- Payroll settings and exports are on every plan, including Free.
Questions people ask
Is the last day of the pay period the same as payday?
No. Enter the last day of work the period covers. Payday usually comes a few days later.
We pay every two weeks. Why are the report dates a week off?
Kloqk needs to know which two weeks. Enter the Last day of your current pay period in Settings > Payroll and the dates will match.
Why doesn't my overtime match the pay period?
Overtime is counted per workweek. Set Workweek starts on to your real workweek. When a period splits a week, its overtime lands in the period with the end of that week.
Can I change my pay period later?
Yes. Pay periods already saved in pay history keep their old dates.
