Quick start: from sign-up to your first punch
Get Kloqk running in one sitting: add your team, set your pay period, open the time clock and record a first real punch.
Most businesses are clocking people in within 15 minutes of signing up. Add a few people, choose your pay period, open the time clock on a tablet by the door, give everyone a PIN, and punch somebody in.
The Your setup list on your Overview follows the same order and ticks each step as you finish it, so you can always see what is left.
1. Add your employees
- In the sidebar, click Employees, then Add employee.
- Type a First name and Last name. That is all Kloqk needs to put somebody on the clock.
- Click Add employee. Repeat for two or three people to start.
Your own record is created for you when you sign up, so the step only ticks once somebody else is on the list. More detail: Add employees.
2. Choose your pay period
- Go to Settings > Payroll.
- Under Pay schedule, pick Weekly, Bi-weekly, Semi-monthly or Monthly.
- For weekly and bi-weekly, fill in Last day of your current pay period and check Workweek starts on.
- Click Save beside the section heading.
Every timesheet and report lines up with these dates.
3. Open the time clock
- Click Time Clock in the sidebar. Each location shows its Time clock address and an eight-digit code.
- On the tablet, old phone or computer that will sit by the door, open that address and type the code. Or click Open location kiosk to try it on the screen you are using.
Full steps, including how to lock a screen you are signed in on: Set up the Office Time Clock.
4. Give everyone a PIN
Open the Set PINs step in your setup list. It shows every name with a four-digit box beside it. Click Generate the empty ones, then Save PINs, and hand them out. Or let each person tap First time here? Set up your PIN on the clock and choose their own. See Set up PINs.
5. Record one real punch
Type a PIN on the clock and press Clock In. Then open Timesheets and check the hours landed. This is the step that proves it works.
Crews who punch from their phones
If your people work at job sites, they use the Field Time Clock instead: each person gets a login, opens your sign-in page on their phone and punches there, and every punch records where it happened. Start with Job sites and geofences and Invite employees to log in. The Field Time Clock is $59 per location per month on Premium, free for 30 days from the first phone punch, with no card needed to start.
No clock at all?
You can skip the tablet and type hours in. Go to Timesheets > Enter hours in bulk and fill a whole pay period on one grid. See Enter hours in bulk.
Good to know
- Free covers the time clock, unlimited employees and one location. A second location, employee logins and full history past 90 days are part of Pro at $29 per location per month.
- You can change the way your team clocks in at any time in Settings > Time clock under How your team clocks in. It changes the setup guidance, it does not switch anything off.
- Stuck? The last step on the list is Book a 15-minute setup call. We go through it with you on a screen share.
Questions people ask
Do my employees need an email address or an app?
No. On the Office Time Clock, names and a four-digit PIN are all they need. Email is only needed for people who sign in, like managers or crews punching from their phones.
Can I use a computer instead of a tablet?
Yes. A tablet, an old phone or a computer left open on a monitor all work. On a computer, staff can type their PIN on the keyboard.
Is there a limit on employees on the free plan?
No. Free includes unlimited employees at one location.
Can I enter hours without a time clock?
Yes. Timesheets > Enter hours in bulk lets you type a whole pay period on one grid, with no clock and no punches.
